Company History

Power/mation is a nationally recognized distributor specializing in advanced automation hardware and software products as well as solutions. We help our customers improve their manufacturing processes by assisting them in the application of unique automation solutions in the following technology areas: motion control, logic control, software, sensors, vision, safety, power transmission, panel components and solutions.

Power/mation began in 1961 and has grown to multiple locations within Minnesota, Wisconsin, Illinois, Iowa, Nebraska and the Dakotas.

Responsibilities

The Director of Operations provides direction and management to the Operations Department on a companywide basis which includes:

  • Purchasing
  • Warehouse/Materials
  • Facilities
  • Return and Repairs 

This individual is responsible for the coordination of activities between departments to ensure customer expectations are met or exceeded.

Operations

R

Coordinates and ensures overall effective and smooth operations between purchasing, warehouse, return and repairs, administration, and support functions with other internal departments to facilitate customer satisfaction, workflow effectiveness, and operational efficiency

R

Interfaces with other members of management to ensure quality of operation and effective communication between departments.

R

Develops and implements policies, procedures, and work instructions to address workflow processes and operational issues from order entry through shipping.

Quality and Continuous Improvement

R

Ensures quality and continuous improvement of operations by employing preventive action and corrective action at the root cause level.

R

Initiates changes to increase overall efficiency, improve customer service, and lower costs.

Overall Inventory Control

R

Responsible for overall inventory control including physical handling and storing of product, accuracy of count, shipping, receiving, and picking/packing processes for all Company locations.

R

Responsible for the cycle counting and physical inventory processes on a company-wide basis.

R

Responsible for company-wide logistics issues including the transportation of product and freight line services.

Material Handling

R

For all offices, ensures safe and efficient warehouse layout, proper product storage, effective employee productivity, and effective coordination of the warehouse and distribution activities.

Facilities Management

R

Responsible for the management and maintenance of the facilities of all offices including repair of facilities, security, HVAC, plumbing, outside services contracted to provide services i.e., cleaning services, landscaping, and parking lots.

Participates in the negotiation of all office leases and presents to corporate officer for approval and signature.

R

Responsible for the overall safety of Power/mation vehicle drivers to ensure they are performing duties in compliance with Power/mation driver policies and procedures as well as state and federal traffic and safety regulations.

Budgeting and Expense Management

R

Responsible for the overall budget for the Operations Department on a corporate wide basis

R

Ensures department expenses are within budget guidelines and approves expenses within level of authority.

R

Assess resources and capital to ensure smooth, cost effective operations.

R

Approves the purchase of equipment within level of authority, as needed.

R

Works with management to determine the appropriate use of capital and resources.

Employee Development/Performance Coaching/Staffing

R

Promotes the Company vision company wide.

R

Provides leadership to foster an environment of teamwork and open communication.

R

Responsible for maintaining a positive work environment and promoting a customer focused culture and climate. Conducts meetings with staff on a regular basis.

R

Adheres to the responsibilities common to all managers and supervisors. Establishes performance standards, monitors employee performance, conducts timely evaluations and salary reviews for assigned personnel. Provides ongoing training, coaching, counseling and development of employees. Participates in the selection of new employees.

R

Responsible for identifying training needs of staff as well as the overall training needs of the Operational personnel company-wide and developing programs to address these needs. Responsible for ensuring that operational staff receives the training and resources needed to perform their jobs effectively.

Adheres to the responsibilities common to all managers and supervisors. Responsible for ensuring that staffing levels are appropriate for all areas of Operations. Coordinate’s coverage and back up for all areas of responsibility to facilitate customer satisfaction and operational efficiency.

Travels to other office locations as necessary to perform job duties.

Requirements

R

Bachelor’s degree in Business Management, Industrial Distribution or related area preferred.

R

Minimum of five years of industrial distribution or related management experience such as supply chain management.

R

Five years of experience in a combination of the following areas: operations/logistics, purchasing, shipping/receiving, inventory control, customer service, facility management and administrative/support functions.

R

Ability to problem solve and make decisions to solve customer requirements and continually improve operations.

R

Excellent oral and written communication, leadership and interpersonal skills.

R

Excellent abilities in team building, coaching, training and performance management.

R

Ability to manage staff in multiple locations.

R

Ability to organize and prioritize department issues and manage time in order to meet Company objectives.

R

Ability to travel including overnight to Company locations as needed.
